Casper Vandeputte (1985) is a writer and director, and one of the creators at Theater Utrecht. He graduated in 2008 from the directing program at the Toneelacademie Maastricht and has since developed into a leading voice in the Dutch theater landscape.
Casper creates vivid and socially engaged productions, always seeking intense emotion, humor, and poignancy. With his transparent style of performance and open perspective, he addresses large and often challenging themes (such as identity, love, trauma, heredity, and power) in an accessible and human way.
His work moves effortlessly between different contexts and audiences. He works just as naturally on a production of Woyzeck in a TBS context with the Van der Hoeven Clinic, as he does with projects involving the young, multi-voiced generation of performers at DOX, Utrecht’s home for young performers from diverse subcultures. This wide-ranging practice makes his work both socially grounded and artistically sharp.
Casper combines directing, writing, and dramaturgy, creating productions for both youth and adult audiences. He has previously collaborated with, among others, Het Nationale Theater, Toneelschuur Producties, Theater Oostpool, and DOX. His productions are regularly selected for festivals, praised by the press, and honored with major theater awards.
Through his work, Casper consistently explores what connects people, especially in moments of tension or friction. This has established him as a creator with a distinctive and recognizable artistic and social signature.
