Theme: Body, Agency and Autonomy
Theater Utrecht invites theater practitioners and performers to share unfinished work in our Work in Progress segment. For this iteration, we are looking for work that explores the body as a site of agency and autonomy: who decides what a body does, what it is allowed to do, and what it refuses to do.
We are not looking for polished productions or works awaiting a premiere. We want ideas still taking shape, scenes that haven't found their ending, and experiments that might fail in interesting ways.
What we mean by Body, Agency and Autonomy
We read the theme broadly. You might be working with:
- Consent, boundaries and bodily self-determination
- Disability, chronic illness, aging and care
- Gender, sexuality, reproduction and identity
- Migration, borders, policing and surveillance of bodies
- Labor, exhaustion, productivity and rest
- Your own approach, if it speaks to the theme
We welcome work in any form: theater, dance, performance art, live art, physical theater, spoken word, sound, or hybrid practices.
For whom?
Makers in the first 7 years of their practice, rooted in the province of Utrecht, who are:
- Working on new work or research (preferably in English)
- Have a maximum of 20 minutes of demonstrable work
- open to feedback and dialogue
- Wishing to make their work visible at an early stage
What do you get?
- A spot this evening (the evening is shared with two other makers)
- Artistic and production support
- Feedback from the public, peers, and professionals
