Crutches as an artistic strategy
Scottish artist Claire Cunningham is one of the most internationally renowned artists with a disability. In this lecture-demonstration, she shares her signature movement style, Quanimancy, and how the use/misuse of her crutches influences her artistic practice. In recent years, her focus has shifted from the relationship between crutches and the body to the connection her crutches create with the world around her. She uses her crutches as an artistic tool, questioning societal ideas about what constitutes value.
From international to local
Every year, Theater Utrecht, together with the What You See Festival, invites an international artist to challenge the Dutch theater scene. This year it is Claire Cunningham, a performance artist with a physical disability who focuses her practice specifically on the physical accessibility of public spaces.
