What You See | Workshop Runway

“You better werk!” During this Ballroom workshop with the Brazilian trans sisters Irmãs Brasil—who also appear in this year’s opening performance Eunuchs—you’ll experience the empowering art of the runway walk. Posing and performing become a life lesson: to claim space, celebrate yourself, and feel community.

Inspired by Legendary Mother Viní Ventania 007, the sisters invite you into the world of Ballroom—a culture and community created in the 1960s and ’70s in Harlem by Black trans women, which became the birthplace of the dance style Vogue. Slip on your heels (or your favorite shoes) and get ready to be challenged: supermodel energy guaranteed!
