Crutches as artistic strategy
Scottish artist Claire Cunningham is one of the most internationally acclaimed disabled artists. In this lecture demonstration Claire will share her distinct movement style Quanimacy, illustrating how the use/misuse, study and distortion of her crutches have informed her practice.
In recent years, Claire’s focus has shifted from exploring the relationship between her body and her crutches, to the ways in which crutches connect her to the world around her, using them as an artistic tool to question social ideas of value and worth.
In collaboration with Theater Utrecht, we invite Claire to share her perspective with anyone curious about the role of crip expertise in artistic processes.
Want to dive deeper? Join her workshop “Exploring Crip Technique, Artistry, and Access” on Saturday November 22nd.
Lecture demonstration Language: English
4 Legs Good combines movement and lecture with live audio description in English by Claire herself. A sign language interpreter will also be present.
