Transcendance
Innovation:Lab

Artificial intelligence holds up a mirror to society, and it is through art that we attempt to answer life's questions, such as: what does it mean to be an artist? What does it mean to be human? What is identity?
The Innovation:Lab attempts to answer these questions. In the Transcendance project, Ruben Chi and Bob Sizoo, in collaboration with the Innovation:Lab, explore new ways of communication between humans and machines through dance and the visualization of this dialogue.
Bob Sizoo: “Transcendance began as the creation of a short film and was further developed this year. In early September, we began a project at Theater Utrecht's Innovation:Lab, where we could focus on the technical and moral aspects of dance in a world where technology and AI are playing an increasingly prominent role.”
Ruben Chi: “In this prototype, the dance is expressed by multiple entities. An A-Life system learned the movements from me and is now building on them. A conversation arises between the human dancer and the dancer who transcends the human aspect and is therefore no longer bound by their form and restrictions.”
