LGBTQIA+ people often encounter blind spots in healthcare when it comes to queer identities and experiences. Artist Erik Alkema experienced this too. During a years-long course of treatment, he often found himself wondering: surely I’m not the first queer person with this illness?
With the activist and artistic research project The Only Queer in the Hospital, he aims to raise awareness of queer experiences within healthcare. To do this, the stories of queer people are indispensable—including yours. What challenges did you encounter? What was missing? What could have made a difference? Join this informal brainstorming session to share your story, listen to the experiences of other queer people and think about possible solutions. Together, we can make healthcare more inclusive!
