How do the voice and vulva connect?

The research performance VV is a reclamation and an attempt to open and connect the spaces in between, from the internal compass of the vulva to the external geological position of being. Inspired by Audre Lorde’s The Uses of the Erotic: The Erotic as Power, VV is a sister project to Shaking shame.

VV is a research performance originally developed and performed in 2022 as part of Welcome to Our Guesthouse, a programme by Productiehuis Theater Rotterdam.
The performance was originally conceived and performed by Melyn Chow and Jing Hong Okorn-Kuo.

Melyn Chow

Melyn Chow grew up in Singapore and is currently working within the Dutch mime, contemporary dance and performance scene. She studied dance at LASALLE College of the Arts Singapore and at the Mime School of the Amsterdam University of the Arts, graduating in 2022.

Melyn’s work is intimate, physical and visual, with a deeply rooted and provocative edge. Her practice continuously explores the intersection of discomfort and desire, beginning from a personal process of unlearning and liberating herself from internalized taboos. Her work Shaking shame received the Mime Performance Prize 2025, and was recognized for its exploration of shame, pleasure and liberation. Her most recent work, becoming god, investigates trance and dark joy, inspired by her uncle, who is a tang ki (spirit medium). becoming god was nominated for the Mime Performance Prize 2026 and the Nederlandse Dansdagen Innovation Award 2026.
